Steal du Jour: Zara Suede Graduated Color Clutch

Like many women (and some men too), I was obsessed with the fashion in Sex and the City. Especially, whatever Sarah Jessica Parker was wearing. I mean, her character, Carrie Bradshaw, always had the best of the best: clothes, shoes, jewelry and bags! (On a side note, she also had the best hair and men on the show too, right? But I digress…) Anyway, some of Carrie’s fashion even made its way into my closet (like this Kenneth Jay Lane Large Butterfly Necklace). Another accessory of ‘Carrie’s’ that I was seriously coveting was this Prada Glace (Glazed calf) Folder Clutch.

Unfortunately, it was nowhere to be found! Too bad I’m not friends with Pat Field, huh? Also, it retailed for $1,080, so it was probably best for my wallet that I couldn’t locate one to buy. But it’s always been, in my mind, as the ‘one (bag) that got away’. Fast-forward many years later and I’ve found a lovely alternative. The Zara Suede Graduated Color Clutch. It’s no Prada, but still it’s a beautiful ombré clutch bag. And it’s only $99.90. Made of 100% cow leather with a linen lining, the bag is chic, roomy (by clutch standards – 11″ x 15″), and fits the bill for ombré bags. I could even picture Carrie carrying it too!

Marni channels Mod, 60′s-style with this graphic print tote

The era of Mod fashion has always been one I was into. To this day, I love a good A-line minidress with a mock neck and some interesting colorblock graphic prints. À la Twiggy. I’m immediately sold on anything that has a geometric print, or contrasting colors accented by sharp lines. Which is one of the reasons I love Marni so much. Everything from their wood platform heels to their geometric print clothing and accessories screams 60′s style.

One of their latest accessories, this brown Marni Tote, caught my eye immediately when I spotted it on Nordstrom.com. (Nordstrom recently announced Marni as one of its newest brands by the way!). The bag looks to be from the MARNI Foulard Fall 2012 collection and is available for pre-order now! (The approximate ship date is 8/3/12.) This brown, printed tote makes a great handbag or supplemental tote bag — you know, the one you carry all your extra stuff in? The body is brown, with a black and light blue laddered grid-print and is made of PVC, and it features flat black, top-stitched leather handles. There’s an open top and inside it’s unlined.

What I love about Marni is the way they take a basic silhouette and give it a vintage vibe that makes it so interesting to wear!

We spotted Sarah Jessica Parker with her husband Matthew Broderick and son James Wilkie at the Imperial Theatre for the opening night of Broderick’s new Broadway play, ‘Nice Work If You Can Get It‘ and though WWCW (What would Carrie wear)? Certainly not THIS! Ok, so Carrie WAS just a character but honestly, because Carrie was so utterly stylish, don’t we secretly always expect the same from SJP? Although we do have to applaud her – she’s certainly not afraid to take fashion risks, whether or not they pay off! Whatever she wears, it gets us talking. But of this Jil Sander coat, we do not approve! Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great coat but it’s too long and big for her petite frame; it just swallows her up. But underneath it she looked glam, in an ivory silk Rochas gown, Manolo Blahnik shoes, Fred Leighton jewelry and a pink and yellow python VBH clutch. Nice bag, if you can get it.

Do we smell a publicity stunt? The newest celeb ‘couple of the moment’, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are such attention wh*res that we really can’t take this relationship seriously. And isn’t Kim still technically ‘married’? Well, while these two parade around their ~~fake~~ ‘relationship’, we can at least enjoy their fashion. Because if there’s anything real about either of them, it’s that they really can dress. And it looks like they’ve decided that dressing alike garners extra attention. Recently they were spotted out together both wearing black leather. Then a few days ago they were snapped leaving Catch in the Meatpacking District, hand in hand, both wearing all black. Kanye wore a black suit while Kim wore a black Givenchy Peplum and Ruffle cocktail dress with her favorite new shoes, Christian Louboutin Un Bout transparent PVC pointed toe pumps and a $2,320 Bottega Veneta Knot Intreccio Memory Clutch. We’ll take their fashion over this contrived relationship, any day.

Today, Wednesday, April 25 and tomorrow, Thursday, April 26, Nancy Gonzalez will debut a limited-edition collection of chain-inspired designs at Bergdorf Goodman. Gonzalez used vibrant hues for spring, like cobalt blue, jade green, bright yellow and turquoise. This exclusive collection uses the designer’s signature Colombian crocodile to create chain accents on handbags, and chain jewelry and belts. The entire collection is hand-made by artisans in Colombia, who use a unique method of creating the chain. There’s no hardware used at all – no metal chain underneath. The ‘chains’ are simply just wrapped over covered crocodile, so each piece is very light. Amazing!

Santiago Barberi Gonzalez, President of the Nancy Gonzalez brand, (and son to the designer) will be at Bergdorf Goodman on both days to debut the collection. Meet him between 1-5 pm on the Main Floor.
