Ahh, Kelis. We gotta love her individuality, even when she takes fashion too far. Lately she’s been rockin a curly hair/braid/mullet combo that is a definite head-scratcher, but we do applaud her fashion risk-taking. Even when it doesn’t quite pay off. She was recently spotted in London sporting that strange hairdo, a bullnose ring, multicolored scarf, a plaid poncho and her denim blue Alexander Wang Suede Brenda Zip Chain Bag. Wonder which item doesn’t belong in this picture?

Alexander Wang’s spring bags have just debuted on shopbop.com and we can’t wait to get our hands on the entire collection. But the true standout is the Alexander Wang Darla Pyramid Clutch. If you loved the Alexander Wang Coco Duffel
and adore clutches, this bag is the best of both worlds. Made of the same black pebbled leather found on most of Wang’s bags, this clutch is pyramid shaped with a vertical zip closure and seam on the front and oversized black bullet head studs on the back. $495 may be a lot to shell out for a clutch but with Wang’s sturdy leather and stud detail, and timeless design, this bag will be one you’ll want to clutch forever. (Measures 9.5″ x 10.5″).
Now if the clutch isn’t for you, for just 200 more you can snag the Rocco Baby Duffel Bag. Like the Coco, the Rocco is duffel-shaped and also features black pebbled leather, double rolled handles and black oversized studs at the bottom. It’s obviously larger than the Pyramid Clutch, but slightly smaller than the Coco (at 11″ x 12″ x 9″ with a 3″ strap drop), which is perfect since the Coco is a pretty heavy bag. There’s also an additional version for $875 – the Rocco Mini Duffel – measuring 12″ x 13″ x 10″ with a 3″ strap drop, and features two zip pockets on the sides.

We’ve seen the Kardashian’s with so many Alexander Wang bags that when we first spotted Kim’s new black tote, we automatically assumed it was another Wang. We were wrong. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a brand equally as hot, Givenchy, but surprisingly, a bag that’s under the radar. Kudos to Kim (or her stylist) for branching out from Wang and Balenciaga (the Kardashians love their Balenciaga bags too). What’s Kim carrying? The simple yet chic Givenchy Large Elschia Sac in Black. The triangular-shaped bag is made of textured leather with a magnetic snap closure at the top, side zippers for expansion and rolled leather handles. It’s a new classic, perfectly understated, and quite a mature departure for Kim.

It’s been a busy year blogging about bags and now we’ve come to the end of 2009 so we decided to compile a list of the top 9 bags of 2009. In no particular order are the bags that made us swoon, drool, and whip out those credit cards and shop! Check them out below and share your favorite bags of the year!
1. Jimmy Choo Mandah Hobo
All the girls carried the Jimmy Choo ‘Mandah’ Hobo BagJimmy Choo Mandah. Halle, J Lo. and Jessica Alba were fans of this smooth calfskin leather and suede bag in brown, leopard and hot pink. With a zippered gusset panel down the front and back center and two rolled handles accented with gold bands, the Mandah was the perfect hobo and the suede/leather combo made it great for any season.
2. YSL Easy Studded Y Bag
Any bag that can distract AWAY from Lady Gaga’s outfits HAD to make the list. The YSL Easy Studded Y Bag was a fave of Gaga, Adrienne Bailon and many other celebs. YSL bags are typically very understated and simple but even they got in on the 2009 studs trend and executed it perfectly. The result was a fabulous duffel bag that we couldn’t take our eyes off of. And that’s no easy feat when you’re in the hands of Lady Gaga.
3. Alexander Wang Coco Duffel
Alexander Wang was the designer of the moment this year. With easy, cool separates and accessories, and a celebrity following led by Rihanna, Mary-Kate Olsen and Amber Rose, it was easy to add Wang to the list. The Alexander Wang Coco Duffel was one of this year’s edgiest bags, with tough leather and even tougher bullet studs on the bottom. The exclusive blue denim version was to-die-for and the grey and tan versions were nice too.
4. Kooba Alex Tote
I’m a bit biased since I own and love this bag, but the Kooba Alex Tote was a must-have this year. The rich aubergine glazed leather was ever-so-slightly distressed, giving it a vintage vibe, while the mini studs gave it modern appeal. The shape was just right – not too big, not too small, and had Kooba’s signature unstructured, ’sling it over the shoulder and go’ feel.
5. Alexander McQueen Faithful Glove Clutch
The Alexander McQueen Faithful Glove Clutch may not have been directly related to the late Michael Jackson but it certainly paid homage to him and his iconic style. The luxe leather clutch featured a detachable fingerless glove on the front, with slanted zippers on either side. We’re sure the King of Pop would have approved.
6. Chloé Paraty Python Tote
This. Bag. Is. Amazing! There’s not much more that needs to be said. With a brilliant design and luxurious python, Chloé really redeemed itself with the Paraty Tote. We haven’t been this excited about Chloé since the Paddington!
7. Valentino Shining Flower Tux 360 Tote
If it was on Gossip Girl, it had to be good. The Valentino Shining Flower Tux 360 Tote made its debut on the show with Blair Waldorf drooling over it and women all over the world followed suit. Following in the footsteps of Valentino’s couture creations, the 360 is what you could call a couture handbag. Rows of black sequins, cream-colored ‘petals’, crystals and a large bow are everything you’d expect from the design house, but wrapped up onto one pretty bag.
8. Rebecca Minkoff Stud Devote Belted Tote
Studded bags were BIG this year and who better to create one than Rebecca Minkoff? The Stud Devote Belted Tote reached instant cult handbag status with its wide, belted and buckled main opening and rows of studs around the top and bottom bands. If you ‘keep up with the Kardashian’s’, you know they love their designer handbags. Khloe (who is acting like a major brat by the way on the new season of the show) visited the SIRIUS XM Studio in New York City with sister Kim. Likely to pub the show. She carried the Alexander Wang Daphne Duffel Bag which we’re not too fond of. It’s a bit of a big furry mess and looks a bit cheap compared to Wang’s other bags. Or maybe Khloe’s just not doing it justice. Such a bag deserves a more casual or edgy look, like jeans and a leather biker jacket. you know, Rihanna-style. Not to give away my age, but I grew up in an era where two-toned jeans were très cool. While that’s not a trend I wish to revisit, a two-toned bag is not so bad. Especially when it’s Alexander Wang. The Alexander Wang slouchy leather shoulder bag ($780) does double duty - it’s a black stamped leather bag on one side and a denim-printed blue suede on the other. The shoulder bag incorporates Wang’s trademark casual cool aesthetic with its slouchy shape. It has two handles at the top, an internal zipped pocket and a fully lined black interior shell. Crossbody bags are the answer to the clutch. If you’re a gal who loves an itsy bitsy bag but can’t stand tucking it under your arm or switching hands all night, crossbody bags are for you. They’re the perfect marriage between the cuteness of the clutch and function of a shoulder bag.
Clockwise, from l to r: What would a bag closet be without a little Alexander Wang in it? The Alexander Wang Brenda Zip Bag ($725) is an edgier take on the crossbody. This street chic leather purse comes with two front zipper pockets and welt pockets. Made with the ‘downtown’ girl in mind, the bag features perforated banding on the sides and pockets with a zippered leather patch on the snake-chain strap.
The Mulberry Kristen Cross Body Bag ($295) is a hot little patent leather clutch that pops in neon pink with a logo plate and zip front pocket. It has a long, adjustable cross body shoulder strap.
BE & D Garbo Mini Bag ($495) in purple tie-dye is to die for. Made of tie-dye nubuck, this crossbody bag features a center pleat with a dark grey pebbled leather studded band at the top and a suede interior lining. It comes with a convertible chain strap that can be worn short, doubled, or long.
We can always count on Marc by Marc Jacobs for a little handbag fun. The Marc by Marc Jacobs New Q Derby Cross Body Bag ($188) comes in a juicy purple (prune) pebbled leather with a signature enameled logo plate and brass hardware. The bag also features an adjustable shoulder strap and is detailed with metal nuts and a resin logo bead on the tasseled zipper pull.

Kristin Cavallari does not disappoint on the new season of The Hills. When MTV said “the bitch is back”, they meant it! The self-proclaimed bad girl was spotted walking down paprazzi-ridden Melrose Boulevard in Los Angeles, California, sporting several fall trends - the plaid shirt, Ray-Ban ‘Wayfarer’ shades, the staple skinny jeans and a black Alexander Wang Coco Duffel. Ashley Olsen, Rihanna and Ashley Tisdale also own one. The bag is super hot but heavy with the bullet-shell style studs on the bottom. But a tough chick like Kristin can certainly handle a tough bag. But handling Justin Bobby - now that’s another story.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Rihanna strutting around NYC. Apparently the singer has been busy shooting the video for her song “The Wait Is Ova” on her new upcoming album. She was spotted heading into Milk Studios in NYC and though we can’t co-sign on her new hairstyle (was she inspired by Blanka or something?), we still love her style, especially the two handbags - the Alexander Wang Coco Duffel and the EXCLUSIVE Marilyn Minter Bright Pink Tote to benefit Bright Pink, a breast cancer awareness organization. We’ve spotted a few ladies around NYC toting double bags and there are times we can’t choose just one either. So is this the new trend? We’ll be sure to watch Rihanna - you know she sets the trends.

The sidewalk strutting singer wore a black tank and cutoff shorts and this time she switched up her bag from her usual Alexander Wang wardrobe to a Chanel. She worked the Chanel Lambskin Flap Handbag in black with a a long chain strap and further accessorized with brown oxford shoes and a tightly clutched green folder. What’s inside Rih Rih - songs? Scripts? The suspense is killing us!

Haute or Not: the Alexander Wang Bianca Vest Bag as seen on Amber Rose

Between Rihanna and Amber Rose, Alexander Wang never has to pay for publicity again. The two ladies seem to put on their own personal fashion shows on the streets of New York, Los Angeles and Miami, day after day, and a lot of their wardrobes seem to be designed by Alexander Wang.
Amber Rose in particular is starting to get a bit of a Kanye complex - with her frequent ‘candid’ appearances and odd displays of fashion. She was spotted hand in hand with the Louis Vuitton don in what I thought at first was some strange sort of S&M contraption (-hey, who know what these two are into?), but actually turned out to be the Alexander Wang Bianca Vest Bag.
This pebbled leather vest/bag has ten zip pockets on the front as well as a zip side pocket, and adjustable shoulder straps. I think it also doubles as a bullet proof vest or some sort of convertible fanny pack that you wear around your neck. It’s different, that’s for sure, but would you wear it? And would you pay $850 for it?

News alert: Rihanna was spotted with two new Alexander Wang bags. Oh wait, that’s not news, because when is Rihanna NOT spotted with two new Alexander Wang bags? I think the designer may have to design a new collection around her since she’s got so many of them that there won’t be any left for the season. Her latest? The black denim leather Alexander Wang Donna Hobo and the blue Alexander Wang Denim Leather Brenda Zip Bag

Both bags feature the look of denim plus super-soft distressed, washed leather. The Donna hobo features two welt pockets and four zip pockets with a wraparound zip gusset at the front and back. The long shoulder strap ties at the top and there’s a main zip closure. 13″ x 15″ with a 16″ strap drop.
The Brenda zip bag features two zipper pockets and two welt pockets at the front and a zippered leather patch at the snake-chain strap. It also has a zip main closure. Measures 7″ x 10″ x 3″ with a 22″ strap drop.

I’m still not sure what Ashley Tisdale is famous for, besides High School Musical, but I gotta give it to the girl - she’s got great style. I had a few pairs of those tacky acid washed jeans back in high school but I wish I could have afforded luxury designer accessories to dress them up a bit. Tisdale was spotted recently in Los Angeles, California in a laid-back West Coast casual uniform of a vintage tee, skinny acid washed jeans topped by slouchy grey Christian Louboutin boots, red- framed sunglasses and the Alexander Wang Coco Duffel. The bag has been a fave of Mary Kate Olsen, who actually snagged one of these hot bags months before they even came out. Ahhh, the perks of being close friends with Alexander Wang. Anyway, Tisdale is carrying the black version but the denim leather version is my personal fave. The denim is exclusive to shopbop and is made of super-soft yet distressed, denim-style leather, and features two hidden zip pockets and a box pleat at the side. The coolest part are the metal studs at bottom which makes it super edgy.
