Burberry is a high-end British brand that is known for its signature check print and is synonymous with luxury. Burberry bags are typically sleek and polished, and very well made (like one of my all-time favorites, the Burberry Warrior bag), and the price tags reflect that. So it’s baffling how this Burberry Bloomsbury Nubuck Hand-Painted Bag ($3,995) came to be part of the Burberry Fall 2014 collection.
The silhouette alone is very basic – it’s an elongated satchel with double rolled handles, some gold hardware and a gold Burberry logo stamp. As the website describes it: “Each bag is a one-off design and entirely unique, crafted from panels that have been painted with floral artworks.” These hand-painted florals look more like sidewalk chalk drawings than artwork you’d expect to see on a high-end, luxury handbag! Even more baffling is that two of the three colorways are already out of stock! Only the brown/black/pink flower version is currently available.
Are people really clamoring for this expensive and dare I say, fugly, bag?!
