My friend Staci, fellow fashion blogger and handbag enthusiast, today launched her line of ‘fancy & fabulous’ bags! The artistic line of bags, called ‘Joanie Totes‘, was created in collaboration with fashion illustrator Jennifer Lilya, and feature an illustration of a beautiful, vibrant woman out shopping at some fabulous stores! The bags are absolutely lovely but the story behind the collection is bittersweet. Joanie, the inspiration behind the fabulous totes, was Staci’s mom, who was diagnosed with TTP (Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura) last summer. Unfortunately this rare, autoimmune blood disorder took her life within four months. Losing your mother is a pain that I can’t even begin to imagine, but Staci pushed through and channeled the pain from her loss, plus the passion for her mother and their shared love of accessories to launch this line in her honor, and to raise awareness about TTP…one bag at a time.
According to the Answering TTP Foundation, “TTP is diagnosed at a rate of 3 to 4 in 1 million people per year. Potentially fatal complications can result from internal blood clotting with damage to critical organs such as the brain, heart and kidneys.” The answers to many questions on TTP are unknown. This includes its cause, why it happens, what may trigger a relapse from remission, why some patients relapse and others don’t, what the long term prognosis is, how to ease treatment and how to cure TTP. The Answering TTP Foundation promotes research, provides support and furthers education initiatives that are designed to improve the prognosis for all TTP patients.
“Joanie loved to shop, travel, and make every day a party. She had impeccable taste, and was always fancy and fabulous.” – Staci
