Let me start this by saying that I LOVE Alexander Wang. I once saw him in SoHo late one night standing outside and peeking in the window of his store. I was out with my husband riding bikes and I couldn’t resist yelling out, “Alexander – I’m a such a huge fan!” He smiled and responded with a modest “Thank you.” He probably thought I was a crazy person, but I couldn’t help myself – the guy is a fashion design genius, at least in my book. Especially when it comes to accessories. I own several of his bags and shoes so I’m always excited to see what he’s going to do (and what I’m going to buy) next.
That said, his Racketeer Sling Geyser Haircalf Shoulder Bag has me confused and scratching my head. It looks like a mix between a luxury accordion (yes, the instrument) and one of those travel wallets that fold up for easy packing. Of this bag, I’m not a fan. It’s from the Fall 2014 collection and features a grey haircalf body with leather trim, an awkward, short top handle, plus a long strap which is weird given the shape of the bag. It’s like carrying a wallet or clutch with a long shoulder strap. And the envelope style shape of each of the compartments looks like it can hold no more than some cash, credit cards and maybe a cell phone. It’s interesting, artistically, but looks pretty impractical and not very Wang-ish.
What are your thoughts on the bag? Think it’s haute or not?
