When it was announced that Alexander Wang was joining Balenciaga as creative director of women’s, men’s and accessories, my first thought was “I can’t wait to see the bags!”
Well, his first line of bags for Balenciaga Fall 2013 (called Le Dix) have been revealed. And I don’t know what to say. Sure, we shouldn’t have expected his traditional downtown style to appear at the House of Balenciaga but these bags are so opposite what we’re used to from Wang, AND Balenciaga. Both brands exhibit edgy, cool girl style, especially when it comes to accessories. But these Wang for Balenciaga bags are unexpected – they’re much sleeker, more polished and more ‘grown up’. They’re more along the line of classic, timeless bags, like the Hermes Kelly bag you might borrow from your chic aunt’s closet.

The collection will be available in stores this August. Prices range from $995 to $2,250.
