So here’s a new concept in handbag design – seam-free bags. Designer Paco Rabanne‘s new handbag line, called No Couture, is entirely seamless, and all of the bags are in fact held together by metal staples! If this sounds like a weekend craft project to you, don’t worry, it’s not. Rabanne used his iconic style of incorporating metal-linked rings (like he’s used for decades on dresses), but now in handbags. The collection includes North/South Tote bags and small and medium-sized flap clutches with Rabanne’s signature chain handle. The bags come in luxury leather, mirrored metallics and exotics, plus the pièce de résistance – the completely furless ‘Fur Tote‘ – a bag covered in a layer of silver nailheads.
Each bag is handmade in France and they retail from 750 euros (roughly $1,000) for a rubber tote up to 6,500 euros (around $8,600) for fur. I’m loving the innovative use of staples as both decorative hardware and the ‘glue’ that literally holds the bags together. What do you think of the collection?
