The seventies came back in full force on the Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter 2011 runway. Retro shades of mustard yellow, turquoise, orange and red spiced up earthy chocolate brown, tans and khakis with a few touches of navy blue. While the color palette was truly of the disco-era variety, silhouettes and prints were decidedly forties-style. Chevron patterned dresses, jackets and skirts with thick contrasting stripes and belted dresses with Marc by Marc Jacobs-style animal prints (think multicolored deer; not your standard leopard print) were paired with colorblock-style leather bags, printed satchels, plush suede envelope clutches and some colorful drawstring totes. The chevron and deer prints also served double-duty on some handbags as well, in a luxurious velvet fabric and canvas print paired with colored leather.
