Devi Kroell debuts Dax Gabler Fall 2011 line at New York Fashion Week #NYFW

I can recall the first time I spotted Devi Kroell‘s luxury exotic handbags in a magazine feature. It profiled the new designer, and her unique technique of spraying the undersides of python skins on her highly coveted handbags in the Devi Kroell collection. While she has since moved on from the company that bears her name (she sold Devi Kroell in 2010) and won her the prestigious CFDA Swarovski Perry Ellis Award for Accessory Design, the designer remains within her, so she launched a new line – Dax Gabler. Kroell debuted her Fall line yesterday at the Chelsea Arts Center during New York Fashion Week.

The line is named after Kroell’s grandmother’s maiden name, and is of Tyrolean heritage. Thus inspired the line, which pays homage to her Tyrolean roots. Kroell says she specifically was inspired by the Austrian/German art movement, “New Objectivity” and artist Alfons Walde, who painted Tyrolean daily life in a minimal, contrasting aesthetic. Kroell said: “I wanted the collection to feel rich, but in this very understated way.”
The collection includes both lower-priced luxury handbags in the style of alpine hunters and gatherers in the Tyrolean region, and ready-to-wear pieces made from mountain sheep wool from Tyrol, Austria, in shades of grays, browns and black (representative of the subdued color palette of traditional Tyrolean folk costumes), along with wearable, flat shoes. Prices will range from $250 to $890.

What do you think of the Dax Gabler colllection?
