Guess her bag: Whitney Port

So The Hills and The City have returned, and yes, we’re addicted. How can you not love the (fake) drama, (fake) catfights, Heidi’s new (fake) face and Whitney’s new (real) attitude? Apparently her time living in ‘The City’ has served her well. No more naïve little California girl – she’s now a tough-as-nails (almost) fashion industry It girl. It’s her moment and she’s not letting anyone (that means you Olivia) steal her shine. Her Whitney Eve line is doing very well, and we’re not surprised. Whitney was always one of the true fashionistas of the crew, from her time interning at Vogue until now. Her style has evolved and matured but her good taste remains. We’d wear most of her stuff - the jumper, her Pour La Victoire sandals, and especially that lovely bag she’s carrying while filming the new season of The City. We just can’t put our finger on the designer. Any guesses?

Bag Lady: Knock it Off

Everywhere I turn, I’m reminded of the financial crisis our economy is in. My dearest friends have been laid-off, their savings depleting by the second and things are not looking up just yet. Last week, two of my colleagues were “let go”, due to the loss of a major account. If this wasn’t a wake-up call I don’t know what was. I made a pact with myself; no more frivolous spending. Who was I kidding? I scratched that notion off my list and made an offer I should have refused.

In order to start saving for potential rainy days, one must have the proper tools. How can I even attempt to adhere to my new pact without a new wallet? My eye was on Prada’s Saffiano Leather Continental Wallet for over a year but, a little birdie told me I could get a knock-off for less than $60. Instead of flagging a cab, the new me decided on taking the N train downtown.

Ten minutes and two panhandlers later, a wave of guilt passed through my body like a bolt of lightning. How could I jeopardize my integrity for something so heinous? Yeah, so I frequent not so legal underground events for designer bags. I might even overdraft my checking account to satisfy my needs but, I have to take a stand on something that affects thousand of handbags waiting to be purchased. One must imagine a slouchy hobo sitting waiting for their new owner to pick them up or a slick satchel anticipating a new closet to call it home.

I felt very proud of myself walking towards the Intermix cashier with my Zibba in tow. Rescuing a purse is such an honorable thing to do. Hey, in this economy, a savings is a savings.

With a name like ‘The Knot‘, you might half expect to see some sort of bridal clutch. Something white, ivory or blue, with maybe a sparkly crystal or two. Instead, it’s a funky ‘orchid’ purple and light pink ombré-style leather box clutch with purple scribble-effect stitching. The Bottega Veneta The Knot leather clutch actually doesn’t look like leather. At first glance it appears to be some sort of satin fabric, with the ’scribbled’ stitching all over. Read more

Peter Copping launches limited-edition handbag line for Nina Ricci

If you’re one of those women that wants to own the bag that no one else has, then get your credit cards ready. According to Women’s Wear Daily, designer Peter Copping has launched a new handbag line for Nina Ricci and to celebrate the launch, he’ll be releasing only 10 limited-edition bags in his draped Ambre style. The small collection will be sold exclusively at the Nina Ricci Avenue Montaigne store in Paris, starting April 15. The bag features lace-covered black leather, trimmed with an amber-colored clasp made of acetate. It’s meant to mimic the color of Ricci’s L’Air du Temps perfume. We’re pretty sure Nina Ricci handbag lover Rihanna has already got hers reserved, so that means there’s only nine left! No word on the price.

Gasp! Lady Gaga defaces the almighty Hermes Birkin

Yes, you read that right. Lady Gaga, who LIVES for shock and awe, took a black Sharpie marker to a white Hermes Birkin, just to give a message to her Japanese fans. We can’t imagine any fans woth defacing a Birkin, but thn again, we’re not Lady Gaga. The multi-thousand dollar bag which has a 5-mile long waiting list was probably easy for Gaga to get (you know, the whole celebrity thing and all). And knowing what it means to all of us fashionistas and handbagistas, she turned the lovely bag into a notepad. And her important message? It read, roughly: “I love you small monsters: Tokyo love.” Yes. And we hate YOU for doing this to this bag.

There was a lot of celebrity mommy and me time to be had in NYC this weekend. Katie Holmes was spotted shopping in Union Square holding her adorable daughter Suri who rocked a pair of pink bunny ears and bunny slippers for the occasion. We’re not much loving Katie’s outfit of a blue button down shirt, denim A-line skirt and red kitten heels. She’s looking a bit ‘Joey Potter’-ish and just looking at this outfit is making Paula Cole songs play in our heads. And we thought Dawson’s Creek went off the air years ago. Even her little girl is looking more stylish than her! But we do love Katie’s python Chloé Marcie leather hobo bag. It’s a chic bag for girls on the go and it’s just large enough to carry an extra pair of bunny ears, or whatever else mini fashionistas might need.
