We heart Joy Bryant. She always looks so effortlessly fresh-faced and pretty. She doesn’t follow trends, and often looks like she just grabbed something quickly from her closet, but the result is always chic. Take this ensemble that she wore to her Parenthood premiere at the Director’s Guild Theater in Los Angeles. She wore a polka dot chiffon tunic with a black miniskirt and accessorized with minimal jewelry and makeup and the Botkier Isis clutch. The total look is so effortless but still red carpet-worthy. How can you not love her style?

Zigi NY knocks off Be&D’s studded Garbo satchel

The other day while strolling through Soho, I stopped at the window of a store to check out a bag that caught my eye. In a classic case of ‘haven’t I seen this bag somewhere before?’, I quickly recognized it as a blatant knockoff. It was the Zigi NY Women’s Stud Muffin Gold Hardware Handbag ($245) which looks exactly like the iconic Be&D Garbo Satchel ($655 - was $1,309). Except that Be&D made it first. And made it much better. How do I know this? Well, after several visits to Be&D’s New york City showroom and manufacturing facility, I can vouch for the high quality and superior construction of their bags. The leathers that they use are of the highest quality - they are super sturdy and the hardware studs are high quality as well. The Zigi? Eh, not so much. I’m not even sure it’s leather. While the Be&D Garbo is a pricey bag, it doesn’t deserve to be knocked off. It is well worth the price. The fact that Zigi’s bag is about 20% of the Be&D Garbo’s original price says a lot.

Is this an SJP creation? Much as we love her style, we were highly skeptical about her being named Creative Director of Halston Heritage. And if this bag is a shining example of her work with the brand, then we’re sorry to say that we were right. The Halston Heritage Sequin Folded Clutch ($195) is pretty hideous. We have mixed feelings about sequinned anything, and the small gold sequins covering this clutch looks pretty gaudy. Read more

If I had a Mulberry bag named after me, I’m not sure I would ever carry anything else. But there are always exceptions to be made when it comes to Chanel. Especially quilted Chanel 2.55 Classic Flap Bags. Especially in a blush/nude/pink color that is to-die-for. Brit ‘It’ girl Alexa Chung may have scored a namesake Mulberry bag but clearly she’s partial to her Chanel bags too. She was spotted at the afterparty for the ELLE Style Awards in London, England wearing her pink Chanel, crossbody style. No Mulberry in sight. But can you blame her? The Chanel Flap bag is a modern classic and THE bag on every ‘It’ girl’s arm right now. It’s like a special members-only club. Are you in?

Joan Rivers, the red carpet critic that we all love to hate has reportedly blasted Victoria “Posh” Beckham for being ‘vulgar’ in parading around expensive handbags. Rivers said: ‘Victoria Beckham should get a life. I am not a fan of outrageous consumption. I think it is vulgar. And no-one should flaunt that they have a hundred Hermes bags. Not when people are starving. Everyone should be allowed to have a great time, but she shows a distinct lack of class.’
This is what defines vulgarity??? Not bashing celebrities’ red carpet looks. Not cursing out fellow cast members on Celebrity Apprentice. Not getting so many plastic surgeries that your face looks like it’s been sandblasted. No, toting expensive arm candy is the new vulgarity.

As much as we love clutch bags, chic as they are, sometimes they can be a bit impractical. But we expect it – clutches are small and cute and only meant to hold the basics for going out (keys, money, credit cards, lip gloss, and cell phone). But when we buy a hobo, our expectations are that it go beyond a clutch - and hold a lot. That said, we think the Foley + Corinna Cargo Bag ($495) is one of the poorest excuses for a hobo, or a handbag for that matter. This has to be one of the most ridiculous bags we’ve ever seen. Demi Lovato’s Givenchy Tinhan Old Pepe hobo is right on time

You know how to tell that you’re getting older? When you start to draw a blank on hearing the names of new celebrity starlets. Demi Lovato?!? Who’s that? The only Demi we know is of G.I. Jane shaved head fame, married to Ashton Kutcher, years older and isn’t a singer (at least that we know of). Apparently Demi Lovato is a fairly recent actress/singer who, thanks to our age, we probably would not have noticed if it weren’t for her haute handbag. Though we’re clearly behind the times in keeping up with these newbies, Lovato’s Givenchy Tinhan Old Pepe Hobo is right on time. The bag has one of the weirdest names ever, but a super sleek design that makes up for it. Made of wrinkled leather, this hobo features a V-shaped dip with a rounded insert and flat handles and zippers on the sides to expand. We still don’t know Demi Lovato but we know we heart her Givenchy bag.

R.I.P. Alexander McQueen

The fashion world suffered a huge loss today. On the heels of the start of New York Fashion Week and several weeks before before he was set to unveil his new collection at Paris Fashion Week, it has been reported that iconic fashion designer Alexander McQueen has died. Reportedly, McQueen took his own life, three years after his close friend and mentor Isabella Blow, herself committed suicide.
McQueen, in our eyes, was a fashion innovator and genius. He took all the right risks, always pushed the envelope with his creativity and continually made us fashionistas fall in love with his fashions, time and time again. His apparel collections were vibrant and over-the-top, and at times paid homage to his native England. His shoes and handbags were innovative, ranging from Victorian-style to gothic (with signature skull details), to funky (his alien-footed shoes from his Spring ‘09 show) and even paid homage to icons (we see the Michael Jackson influence in the McQueen Faithful Glove clutch).
In the fashion world, where trends are fleeting and icons are rare, his influence and stamp on the industry will be everlasting, and sorely missed. Rest in peace Alexander McQueen.

It’s rumored that Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush got engaged this past Super Bowl weekend but knowing Kim and her family’s business sense, we probably won’t hear about it until an upcoming episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. The pair had dinner at Prime 112 restaurant in Miami with Kim’s mom Kris Jenner, and all parties looked great. Kim, the center of attention, stood out in a print tank dress accessorized with the Adriana Castro Crocodile Nina black croc clutch from Castro’s Fall 2010 collection. And she used the bag along with her jacket to strategically cover her left hand as they exited the restaurant. And the three of them kept their poker faces on. Looks like Kim’s wish may have finally come true.

After about a decade at number one, it was inevitable that Avatar would finally be knocked out of its number one spot. We just didn’t think Dear John would be the movie to do it! The romantic film featuring Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried is said to be the next version of The Notebook. While it doesn’t look particularly interesting, Amanda Seyfried did when she went on Letterman last week to promote the film. And while every time I see her I still picture her as on of the ‘Plastics’ - a group of girls hating on Lindsay Lohan’s character in Mean Girls, this lady has grown up a lot. (While Lindsay continues to regress and look more and more plastic - how ironic is that?) But Amanda is a ‘Mean Girl’ no more, and she’s got one mean stylist. Her entire look, from her red dress to her studded Prada bag, totally makes us want to hate on her.
