Haute designer: Katherine Fleming

On a recent ‘trip’ to Barneys.com I spotted this Disco Jane clutch by designer, Katherine Flemming, and I immediately fell in love. I checked out the rest of the collection and wanted to know more. Who is Katherine Fleming? While I had never heard of her, after doing a little more digging, I realized I’ve seen her work before. In fact, I even own a lot of her pieces. You see, she was lead accessories designer for Tory Burch for the past four years, before deciding to branch out on her own. She was behind the accessories collection that won Tory Burch the CFDA prize for accessory designer of the year. While her design aesthetic for Tory Burch was more classic, Fleming’s eponymous collection is more futuristic, with a contemporary feel and slight edginess. We see a hint of her TB background in her pieces that include basic silhouettes. She launched her line with only four shapes - a hobo, clutch, shoulder bag and satchel. The materials and colors are magnificent - python in chocolate, acid yellow and amethyst, olive etched metallic leather, leather with patent trim, metallic ostrich and ombre corrugated canvas. All display Fleming’s signature, sinister entertwined serpent-like logo and are handmade in Italy. If you loved Tory Burch’s handbags, you’re going to absolutely love Fleming’s collection.
