Rihanna with the Stella McCartney Falabella City Chain Tote

Since Rihanna’s been in the studio getting ready to drop her new album we haven’t seen much of her sidewalk catwalks. (Click here to check out her Rated R album cover shot by photographer Ellen von Unwerth in Berlin) But we did spot her heading to the studio to put some finishing touches on the songs, and sporting a new bag, of course. This time it was the Stella McCartney Falabella City Chain tote. This edgy bag has the look of leather but with McCartney, you know better. It’s actually made of a black coated cotton with chain link detail throughout - piped down the sides and leading to the straps. It’s haute, plain and simple. And that’s what we’ve come to expect from Rihanna. Now on to the next one!

Kristin Cavallari does not disappoint on the new season of The Hills. When MTV said “the bitch is back”, they meant it! The self-proclaimed bad girl was spotted walking down paprazzi-ridden Melrose Boulevard in Los Angeles, California, sporting several fall trends - the plaid shirt, Ray-Ban ‘Wayfarer’ shades, the staple skinny jeans and a black Alexander Wang Coco Duffel. Ashley Olsen, Rihanna and Ashley Tisdale also own one. The bag is super hot but heavy with the bullet-shell style studs on the bottom. But a tough chick like Kristin can certainly handle a tough bag. But handling Justin Bobby - now that’s another story.

Mulberry + Apple collab on laptop and gadet bag collection

Most laptop bags are pretty boring. But add Mulberry to the mix and you’ve got a brand new bag.

‘Tis the season of collaborations. The latest: Apple and Mulberry, who teamed up to create a sleek and stylish collection of bags, especially designed for Apple’s MacBook, MacBook Pro, iPod, iPhone and iPod Nano. There are nine pieces, including existing designs, like the popular women’s Mulberry Bayswater style, with added padding for laptop protection, and the Brynmore for men. While the exterior is all Mulberry, the interior displays elements of Apple: iPhone and iPod pockets and eyelet holes for the headphones.

Mulberry’s creative director, Emma Hill, said “Apple and Mulberry share a legacy of craftsmanship and I’m thrilled that we were asked to be Apple’s first luxury collaboration.” She continued, “Apple products are too beautiful to reside in drab bags.”

The collection will be available for purchase on Apple’s website and in Mulberry stores starting November 1st. Will you be buying?

Mary J. Blige dons Gucci at Icon-Temporary Flash Sneaker Store launch

R&B singer Mary J. Blige attended the Gucci Icon-Temporary Flash Sneaker Store launch in New York City. The event marked the launch of the design collaboration between Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini and DJ Mark Ronson. Though it was pouring outside, MJB kept it fresh and clean in her sweater, skinny jeans, trench coat and black Gucci python bag. She joined other celebs for the unveiling of the limited-edition Gucci Ronson sneakers. In December, GUCCI ICON-TEMPORARY will move from New York to Miami. It will then move to select cities in Europe and Asia such as London and Tokyo.

How is it that Abigail Breslin is now old enough to tote designer handbags? It wasn’t so long ago that she was the cute little girl in Little Miss Sunshine; now she’s a little lady. She attended the TEEN VOGUE Fashion University - Juicy Couture Party at the Juicy Couture Flagship store in New York City carrying Juicy, of course. Her pick? The ‘Lock-It’ Leather Turnlock Satchel ($348) in taupe. (It also comes in black, lilac and pink.) It features studded detail, a logo-branded turnlock and a decorative braided loop with exterior zip and turnlock pockets and a top zip closure.

Haute or Not: Yves Saint Laurent Mini Charm Leather Bag

We’ve come to know what to expect of Yves Saint Laurent in terms of handbags. From the flat Tribute to the Downtown hobo, the Easy and Muse satchels and the Roady hobo, sleek lines and classic styling are the common characteristics of YSL handbags. And they typically come in rich hues of red, emerald green, deep navy and black. So we were thrown for a loop when we came upon the Yves Saint Laurent Mini Charm Leather Bag. To start, the color is blah - a grey/tan tone that is meant to look weatherd but looks dingy instead. It’s a small leather bag that zips closed, with a 5½” chain-link strap, as well as a logo charm chain under the surface of the leather. It’s not particularly identifiable as a YSL, and maybe that’s a good thing. It’s a different idea, yes, but throwing a chain under some leather does not a luxury bag make.

Unique design or a waste of time?

Paris Hilton + Kimora and kiddies celebrate Hello Kitty’s 35th anniversary

Who else but Paris Hilton could rock a large, crystal-studded Hello Kitty handbag on the red carpet? Actually, Kimora Lee Simmons could. Both ladies walked the red carpet at the Hello Kitty 35th anniversary celebration held at Royal/T in Culver City, California. SANRIO celebrated by collaborating with 80 popular artists, launching a variety of special, limited edition products, and introducing “Three Apples” (Hello Kitty’s weight as listed in her official bio), a multi-dimensional exhibition and celebration of all things Hello Kitty running from October 23 to November 15 at Royal/T. Paris wore her usual pink and posed with the large handbag. Kimora brought daughters Ming and Aoki Lee Simmons, who all donned red hair bows a la Hello Kitty. The event brought out the most random group of people, including the artists and celebrites like designer Tarina Tarantino, actress Markie Post, singer Pete Wentz, and Dave Navarro.

She attended the Pea In The Pod presents Nicole Richie’s “Nicole” Collection for mommies-to-be, toting the Treesje Magnolia Satchel in gray shine. Laura Darrah and Sheila Nazarian are the designers behind the accessories collection Treesje. Though the pair attended the University of San Diego at the same time, they didn’t properly meet until they were both bridesmaids at a mutual friend’s wedding. In typically relaxed LA fashion, it soon became clear that they should join forces and create a handbag collection; thus, Treesje launched in January 2005. Coined for the middle name of the bride who brought them together, Treesje aims to present feminine charm with an urban twist. The results are handbags that work as well with broken-in jeans as they do with a classic LBD, reminding us that fashion can actually be practical.

Bag Lady: Clutch and release

Dinner and drinks with the girls last night, it was time to let my bag down (literally). I finally had a reason to whip out one of my many clutches. Hobo after satchel, tote after flap. I needed a time-out on my everyday gear. Please, don’t get me wrong, I love all my bags and I would never take them for granted, but clutches need love too.

When good bags go bad - Coco with the Anya Hindmarch Cooper bag

We put limits on certain things - you can’t vote until you’re 18. You can’t drink until you’re 21 and over. Rules like these, for the most part, seem to work pretty well. So why can’t we apply similar rules in fashion? Like, for instance, some people shouldn’t be allowed to wear certain things. Ever. Case in point: Ice-T’s wife Coco. Since when does the classiness of an Anya Hindmarch bag go well with the tackiness of leather and spandex? Coco carried a black leather Anya Hindmarch Cooper Tote bag with gold mirrored metallic trim on the red carpet at Ne-Yo’s 30th birthday party held at Cipriani’s last weekend. Now, not only is this not a bag to be carried on the red carpet (it’s way too big), it should also never be carried by Coco. It’s just too damn classy.

Carlos Falchi makes handbags for the masses with Target and HSN collabos

You’ve probably seen Target’s previous handbag designer collaborations (Hayden Harnett, Loeffler Randall, Felix Rey, Anya Hindmarch, Devi Kroell and Botkier) and Carlos Falchi is up next. The designer of exotic python and crocodile luxury bags has partnered with the Bullseye brand to create its eighth limited-edition accessories collaboration. The Falchi for Target line will be in stores and online starting November 1, and will consist of faux snakeskin handbags that will come in jewel tones like plum and teal with contrasting shades of brown, black, and gray, according to WWD. Some handbags will incorporate collage or patchwork techniques. It’s refreshing to see that luxury designers like Falchi realize that the recession is real, and these days hardly anyone feels comfortable shelling out thousands of dollars for a handbag.

 
And starting today, October 22, Falchi will celebrate the expansion of his collection Chi by Falchi on HSN. Not only does this include an expanded selection of handbag, but also new categories such as outerwear (inspired by vintage designs and featuring signature Falchi details), shoes (incorporating mixed leathers, textures, and exotics that Falchi is known for), jewelry and scarves, both inspired by Falchi’s love of bright colors and rich and luxurious fabrics, and sweaters in bold animal prints.

Mr. Belvedere may have been a stuffy British import but the Anya Hindmarch Belvedere Bag is quite the opposite. This luxe grey bag is modern and chic. It is made up of vertical calfskin leather panels layered over super-soft suede and the body is a slightly round-shaped tote. The bag opens wide but has side snaps so it closes beautifully. It’s not too often that we get to feature a double dose of arm candy but when we came across David Beckham strolling through Heathrow Airport, we couldn’t resist doing a virtual double take. And typically, we like to check out the bag first and let the rest follow suit but in this case, well, it’s David Beckham, so need we say more? He tried to stay low key with a hat pulled down over his face which was covered in a rugged beard and he wore a casual plaid shirt and jeans accessorized with a Louis Vuitton Waterproof Keepall 55 slung over his shoulder. Now usually we’re not a huge fan of manbags but in the case of Bex, exceptions will be made!

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Rihanna strutting around NYC. Apparently the singer has been busy shooting the video for her song “The Wait Is Ova” on her new upcoming album. She was spotted heading into Milk Studios in NYC and though we can’t co-sign on her new hairstyle (was she inspired by Blanka or something?), we still love her style, especially the two handbags - the Alexander Wang Coco Duffel and the EXCLUSIVE Marilyn Minter Bright Pink Tote to benefit Bright Pink, a breast cancer awareness organization. We’ve spotted a few ladies around NYC toting double bags and there are times we can’t choose just one either. So is this the new trend? We’ll be sure to watch Rihanna - you know she sets the trends.
