Michael Kors ‘Zuma - Small’ Satchel

February 27, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · Leave a Comment

Michael Kors 'Zuma - Small' Red Leather SatchelWhenever I hear a Beyonce song for the first time, immediately I can’t stand it, but after hearing it over and over and over again, I eventually fall in love with it, add it to my iPod and can unfortunately recite every lyric. Sometimes it’s that way with bags too - I may not appreciate it or ‘get it’ at first glance but eventually, I’m sold. That’s exactly what happened with this Michael Kors ‘Zuma - Small’ Satchel ($1,295). I saw it several times on NORDSTROM.com and I just kept passing it by but after seeing it multiple times, I finally decided that I love it. The lipstick red leather looks so rich and supple so that initially grabbed my attention, but the knots threw me off. But it’s actually a really unique design. Two rows of vertical leather-wrapped grommets go down the front, intertwined with red leather knots that form the shoulder straps. There are grommets and knots down the sides too. The top features an uncommon two-zip closure and there are protective metal feet on the bottom of the bag so you don’t scratch up that soft leather. Measures 14″W x 10″H x 5 1/2″D with a 10″ strap drop.

Haute or Not: D&G Dolce & Gabbana ‘Waikiki Jenna’ Shoulder Bag

Haute or Not: D&G Dolce & Gabbana 'Waikiki Jenna' Shoulder Bag
I seriously thought the end of the fall/winter 2008/2009 fashion season would be the end of fugly bags. I was wrong. Maybe my expectations were too high but I’ve been seeing so many beautiful spring bags lately that I just wasn’t expecting something so odd looking. The D&G Dolce & Gabbana ‘Waikiki Jenna’ Shoulder Bag has one plus since it’s in my fave color, pink, but that’s where the love ends. What is it exactly? A wristlet? A clutch? Shoulder bag? I’m really confused about how to even carry this bag - do you stick your arm through the large hole in the center? Where do you put your stuff? The hole takes up most of the bag so you can’t even really carry anything in it! And what’s with the shoulder strap?? The bag isn’t even big enough to require one. So many questions, so little interest…

Do you love it?

Treesje Luna Clutch - On Sale now!

February 25, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · Leave a Comment

Treesje Luna Clutch
I’m a sucker for anything shiny and sparkly. Not tacky shiny and sparkly stuff, but classy things. Usually this includes jewelry - diamonds preferably! But I’ll go for other accessories too like shoes (love my Tory Burch flats with the big gold logo plate on the toe), wallets (also love my bronze metallic Lovcat wallet) and of course metallic handbags. Clutches are better so I don’t draw too much attention to myself, but maybe you’re the type of woman who loves being the center of attention. I do love my fashion accessories to take center stage though and I think this bag would definitely shine. The Treesje Luna Clutch is a bit of a shocker at first glance: 1) because I expect more low-key bags from Treesje, and 2) the crackly silver metallic leather is super shiny and takes some getting used to. But it is a lovely bag. I like the larger clutches that let you fit more than your barest essentials inside, and the shoulder strap is great for when you get sick of holding it in your hand or trying to keep it tucked under your arm. The design is perfect - a rectangular-shaped bag with a wide front flap with another center panel that latches closed with gunmetal hardware. There is also a hidden zipper closure. The chocolate brown leather trim provides a stark but pleasant contrast to the shiny leather. Measures 13″ w x 9″ h x 2″d.

Was $365, on sale now for $170 at Luna Boston

Cettu Lavender Fringed Leather Satchel

Lavender Fringed Leather Satchel by Cettu
There’s something about pastel bags that make me think “Yay, Spring has sprung!”. Well, of couse it hasn’t yet - the days in NYC are still bitter cold but nothing is better than a pastel bag to brighten up a cold winter day! Pastel bags are the grown up’s version of Easter eggs, baskets and candy - what could be better than all the colorful treats you loved as a child fashioned into a hip leather handbag? This Lavender Fringed Leather Satchel by Cettu is the first of many pastel favorites this Spring. The mix of medieval-style stud detail and fringe makes it especially cute and I love how the design and trim contrast perfectly with the light purple leather. The result? A sleek Spring-y handbag with a slight edge.

Gryson Hannah Bag in Magenta

Gryson Hannah Bag in Magenta
How cute is this magenta Gryson bag? I’ve liked the brands bags in the past but never had the urge to buy one because I felt they were a bit too structured and sturdy, which isn’t a bad thing but sometimes you want a sturdy bag that looks soft. And this one does. The Hannah Bag has the same features we’ve come to love from designer Joy Gryson - structured satchel silhouette, multiple shoulder straps, exterior pocket with zip closure, interior pocket with zip closure and an interior panel pocket - but now in a buttery soft magenta leather which gives it such a feminine touch. Accented with polished silver hardware and signature Gryson luggage tag. Measures 12″w x 9.5″h x 7″d.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Leather Hobo

Marc by Marc Jacobs Leather Hobo
There’s so many haute bags to choose from so when purchasing my own, I try to buy from different designers. But Marc by Marc Jacobs has so many adorable options that I can’t help but want to buy all of them! The Marc by Marc Jacobs Leather Hobo is a gorgeous hobo bag that comes in a chic tan tone that would be great for Spring but I’m really loving the standout royal blue. It’s a slightly slouchy, oversized hobo with front pleating and a top band with metal logo plate. I own the Marc by Marc Jacobs Dr. Q. Lil Riz Leather Hobo and it is the perfect slouchy bag but I like that the Leather Hobo is taller so it provides a bit more structure. I also love that it has dual straps - the single rolled handle (which is great so you don’t have to worry about a second strap slipping off your shoulder), plus a detachable shoulder strap with a 16½” drop; perfect for slinging over your shoulder crossbody style. In short, I love this bag and I’ll be buying another Marc by Marc Jacobs sooner than I thought!

Cleobella Alive Fringe Bag

February 23, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · Leave a Comment

Cleobella Alive Fringe Bag

Some trends just seem inescapable and fringe is one of them. Every season I see another fringe bag and cringe at the thought of the trend coming back full force. But this new take on fringe from Cleobella might make the trend one worth revisiting. The Cleobella Alive Fringe Bag ($528) is a large pebbled leather satchel with irregular, chunky strips of leather pieced throughout the bag to give a ‘fringe’ effect. The grey cow leather mixed with an Ikat-lined interior and braided strap handles with tasseled ends and across the top give it an overall bohemian feel. Though its a shoulder satchel, it also comes with a detachable shoulder strap so you can pack it full and not have to worry about it being too heavy sitting right on your shoulder. Measures 16″H x 18″L x 3.5″D with a 10″ drop from the top handles.

Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Bag - Now with Neon Trim!

February 20, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 1 Comment

Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Bag

Rebecca Minkoff successfully incorporates this Spring’s neon trend into her classic Morning After Bag (MAB). The perfect every day (and night) bag gets a fresh makeover with pink fluorescent piping against the edges of this smooth black leather bag. I’m a little bit thrown off by the gold hardware - it doesn’t really complement the neon pink trim. I think silver or gunmetal hardware would have done the bag more justice. But overall it’s a haute look and a fresh new take on the MAB for Spring. Do you love it or hate it?

Celebrity Handbag Spotting: Kellie Pickler with the Louis Vuitton Embossed Leather Speedy Satchel

February 20, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · Leave a Comment

Clearly I need to brush up on my reality TV. This girl sat across from me during the Terexov show and I had no idea who she was. Christina Aguilera, from a distance. One of the girls from Top Model perhaps? Turns out it was Kellie Pickler from American Idol fame. Blame it on all the makeup. Anyway, she was spotted all around the tents during Fashion Week looking quite stylish with her Louis Vuitton embossed-leather Speedy from the Fall/Winter 2008-2009 collection. Love the bag. American Idol - obviously, not so much anymore.

Linea Pelle Dylan Folding Clutch

Linea Pelle Dylan Folding Clutch

Fashion week staples: comfy but sexy/stylish shoes, coffee, camera for all the fashions/celebrities you can record, tote bag for all those free WWD, Daily and NY Times Style magazines in the tents and a chic clutch for at hand essentials. My pick? The Linea Pelle Dylan Folding Clutch in Black. The soft pebbled black leather actually looks like it has a dark grey sheen and grey is the new black. The studs give it just the right amount of fashion edge. The foldover top makes it easy to clutch and the zip closure keeps your stuff safely inside while you use your hands for much more important things. And it’s only $219 - a very fashion-friendly price!

Celebrity Handbag Spotting: Kim Kardashian with the Chloé ‘Shelby’ Leather Shopper

February 18, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 2 Comments

Kim Kardashian Chloé 'Shelby' Leather Shopper

Fashion Week is halfway over and I’m exhausted! It’s not easy to stay looking fabulous while running from show to show unless you’re a celeb of course. Then all you have to do is be escorted from your hotel, plop yourself down in the front row and enjoy the show! No waiting in lines, no recaps and reviews to worry about writing, no photo uploads, etc. One celeb who has no such worries is Kim Kardashian. She was spotted en route to her hotel after a show with a sleek black trench, Yves Saint Laurent Tribtoo Platform Pumps and the Chloe ‘Shelby’ Leather Shopper. This shopper and the Chloe ‘Shelby’ Leather Satchel are among my new favorite spring bags. They just look so ‘grown up’ (surprisingly, so does Kim). The shopper is simply a larger version of the satchel. Here are the features:

Vegetable-tanned calfskin leather
Goldtone hardware
Thin belts at the side
Interior snap-tab closure
Interior zip pocket
Protective metal feet
Dimensions: 14″W x 13″H x 7 1/2″D; 5 1/2″ strap drop

Is See by Chloé Innovative or Have They Lost Their Minds?

February 13, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 1 Comment

The key to standing out as a designer is really to just create pieces that make people talk. Of course, they must be wearable too. So when I first spotted this See by Chloé Patent cutout shoulder bag, it definitely grabbed my attention. I couldn’t help but stare, click away, and then revisit it again. I’m drawn to it even though it looks like someone took a hole puncher to yellow patent leather and threw some confetti behind it. But the result is one cute standout bag.

Here are the details:

Yellow crinkle patent leather shoulder bag with cutout detail and visible multicolored lining. See by Chloé bag has a fold-over flap with a magnetic fastening and a long shoulder strap. $400, NET-A-PORTER.COM

What do you think? Is it a great design or have they lost their minds?

Celebrity Handbag Spotting: Victoria Beckham with high-priced Loewe ‘Calle’ handbag

February 12, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 1 Comment

Victoria Beckham Loewe Calle no Hermes Birkin today

Click pic for larger

When it comes to Victoria Beckham’s accessories, the one I enjoy looking at the most is her husband David. But since he’s off-limits, I’ll settle for the next best thing, her handbags, some of which I can actually afford to buy and call my own. Posh is one of those celebs who is always on the fashion radar because she is (or at least her stylists are) always on top of what’s haute and what’s next. The Spice Girl was spotted in Heathrow airport on her way to Milan, sans one of her usual Hermes Birkin bags and toting her new fave accessory, a black ostrich skin Loewe ‘Calle’. Owned by LVMH, this Spanish brand launched in Madrid in 1872 and is a source of high-end luxury designer bags and leather goods. The ‘Calle’ is a super large bag that comes with an even heftier price - $10,000, which really is nothing to a woman who owns hundreds of Hermes bags. The pyramid shaped bag also comes with a giant padlock so no one can get inside it but Beckham. Shop Loewe.

Chloé ‘Shelby’ Leather Satchel

February 11, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · 1 Comment

 Chloé 'Shelby' Leather Satchel
Would you tote a file cabinet? Me neither. But I would carry this Chloe ‘Shelby’ Leather Satchel despite the fact that it reminds me of a weird file cabinet or folder with leather top handles. Like you could stuff all your files in it. Maybe it’s the vegetable-tanned (curcuma???) leather which slightly resembles a manila folder or the gold hardware across the front. But either way, I like it. It’s just the right bag for a work day. It’s sensible and classy with just a hint of trendiness giving it that Chloé edge. It features a top break-away zip closure and interior zip pocket and measures 13″W x 9″H x 6 1/2″D with a 8 1/2″ strap drop.

Oscar Nominee Taraji Henson Loves Lambertson Truex!

February 10, 2009 by Ehmonie Hainey · Leave a Comment

Taraji-P-Henson-loves-her-Lambertson-Truex-Signature-Framed-Clutch-in-Ring-Lizard-and-Paxton-Clutch-in-metallic-silver

I first remember Taraji Henson from her role in Baby Boy where she played Tyrese’s crazy on-again off-again girlfriend. Overall it was a pretty bad movie and I have to admit I didn’t think her career would go very far after that. Her next memorable role for me was Hustle & Flow where she played one of Terrence Howard’s ‘girls’. I thought her role was a weird one – her character was nervous (and nerve-wracking) throughout most of the film, but it at least it showed her acting chops more than Baby Boy. But over the past year, Taraji has transformed her career and style and this Oscar nominee is becoming one to watch - in both areas. Last year she had a supporting role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button which was a huge step up from her past films. Kudos to her! But I specifically love her style evolution which is perhaps due to the rise of her star (now that she’s been nominated, more designers are probably clamoring to dress her and she also probably has a better glam squad now). Whatever the reason, I’m loving her style as of late and of course that includes her bags. Last week at the Oscar Nominee Luncheon she wore a chic pink dress suit with hot dusty rose Christian Louboutin Patent Platform Pumps (that I want so badly) and the Lambertson Truex Paxton Clutch in silver metallic. Then at the Director’s Guild Awards, she wore a black fitted Kaufman Franco dress and Lambertson Truex’s Signature Framed Clutch in Ring Lizard. Both clutches come from Lambertson Truex’s Spring ‘09 bag collection and are hot, hot, hot! Much like Taraji is now.

Bags available at Lambertson Truex boutiques (888.800.0970), New York, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, or shop Lambertson Truex online.
